What have we done? Here's a sampling of our accomplishments:

Empowering Individuals with Job Skills.
MPR has had a close working relationship with COWIC/JOBLeaders, and continues to assist in further developing the corporation's brand and building its awareness in the community. MPR has been a collaborative partner in the major accomplishments of COWIC/JOBLeaders, including its successful launch and first anniversary celebration, each of which brought over 200 attendees. In addition to that, the corporation received a five-page spread in Columbus CEO magazine. MPR is also currently working on a story in conjunction with Black Enterprise magazine, which would add national exposure to the already established local exposure that COWIC/JOBLeaders has received. MPR continues to work with COWIC/JOBLeaders to further empower individuals in the Central Ohio community.

Miller Public Relations is utilizing a process that was developed in part by the firm's President & CEO, Marty Miller. The process clearly identifies where the client is, where they want to be and maps a clear & practical route for getting there. Organizations who have utilized this process in the past, have built a consistent brand identity as well as sustainable programs for their constituencies.

Changing the Tobacco Culture in Ohio
Miller Public Relations partnered with a team of nationally recognized advertising, public relations and research firms to assist the Ohio Tobacco Prevention and Use Foundation in reaching its goal to make tobacco use unacceptable for 11-17 year olds. Branded stand, the project was funded with money from the master tobacco settlement agreement. To be effective, adult support is needed. Miller Public Relations identified, recruited and worked with key thought leaders and influencers throughout the state to build local community support for youth-sponsored activities and public policy advocacy efforts. Approximately 64 communities representing the rich diversity of the state were actively working with the stand campaign. In addition, Miller Public Relations consulted, designed and implemented specific strategies to reach African Americans, Hispanic/Latinos and other youth and adults of color with the anti-tobacco message.

Improving the Health Status of African Americans
The health status of African Americans continues to be an issue in nearly every metropolitan areas of the state. Contributing to the widening health disparities gap is the lack of information about existing or new health care programs. Miller Public Relations continues to play a vital role in developing fresh approaches to spreading the word about existing programs. The firm is also involved in helping to design effective ways to train and educate African Americans about the importance of good health care. Our work includes recruiting and facilitating focus groups for the Columbus Health Department, designing and helping to manage an outreach program to African American churches for the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line and spreading the word about a new Patient Assistant Program for PhRMA.

Saving Jobs
With more than 6,100 jobs on the line at DSCC, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce approached Miller Public Relations to work on a campaign to build community support for the installation. An all-out show of support was necessary to show the Base Realignment and Closure Commission that the City of Whitehall and the surrounding municipalities wanted and needed to keep the jobs. Miller Public Relations successfully developed and implemented a campaign to collect over 10,000 signature support cards and recruited more than 400 persons to attend a weekday rally in honor of DSCC employees. This effort not only effectively demonstrated community support for the installation to the Pentagon but it has potentially positioned the City of Whitehall for future growth.

Developing Strategies for Urban Crime Prevention
In 2003, the murder rate in Columbus, Ohio was higher than New York City and continues to increase at an alarming rate. In collaboration with the Columbus Urban League, Miller Public Relations developed a comprehensive grassroots strategy to stimulate community involvement and create proactive strategies to prevent crime in Columbus Precinct 6. Our primary tasks included an assessment of the current situation, identifying and recruiting key audiences and stakeholders in the community including clergy, community leaders, community members, local law enforcement officers and youth, and facilitating focus groups. Through this process, Miller Public Relations developed a basis for a statewide, urban crime prevention model.

Building the Future of Columbus
In 2012 Columbus, Ohio will celebrate its Bicentennial and Miller Public Relations was contracted to educate the community about the planning progress and help generate citizen involvement. An important component of the process was the input of middle and high school students as well as a cross section of the adult population. The firm trained students at Metro High School in media relations so that they would be able to interact directly with the various media outlets during their Youth Summit. The students provided sophisticated interviews to the major media outlets and, through the efforts of MPR, they appeared on one television talk show. In addition, MPR provided media support for the Citizens' Summit and various neighborhood meetings.
